Meals from the Market a Huge Success
Over a seven week period we had a total of 21 meals. Meals ranged from an intimate dinner for 6 to a buffet feast for 42. There was also a mini-beer festival event attended by 210. Prices ranged from $20 for a child-focused barbeque to $100 for a gourmet meal at Nana’s. In all, there were 627 tickets sold for just over $26,000.
Our widely-circulated Meals from the Market booklet attracted ads and sponsorship dollars bringing in additional dollars. After expenses, the 2009 Meals from the Market brought in roughly $31,000.00!
These dollars will go directly to Durham Central Park, Inc. for managing and developing the wonderful green space in downtown Durham, including the Pavilion at Durham Central Park.
This year we are also proud to report that additional dollars were earned for fellow non-profits who partnered with us:
Liberty Arts, the premier sculpture-casting facility in the heart of the park, who co-hosted a pig pickin’ meal – $1,523.66
St. Joseph’s Historic Foundation, who co-hosted a dance performance meal at the Historic Hayti Center – $925.00
Durham Central Park Endowment Fund, the beneficiary of the Founders’ Dinner – $1,820.00
Durham Central Park wishes to thank our sponsors Acme Plumbing &
Heating Company, Inc., Balfour Beatty, C.T. Wilson Construction Co., DAPAPA, Greenfire Development, K+L Gates, Measurement Durham, LLC, Stone Brothers & Byrd, and Zapolski Real Estate.
Special thanks to Mark Branly and Neural9 who not only developed our new website but also created an easy to use Meals from the Market on line ticket purchasing system through which 90% of our participants where able to reserve their place at the events.
Durham Central Park also wishes to acknowledge our 21 hosts and most importantly the hundreds of folks who participated in the event as guest. It was your efforts and interest that made this possible.
Last but certainly not least Durham Central Park wishes to acknowledge Lee Ann Tilley, our 2009 Event Chair Person, for her tireless effort in making this years Meals from the Market the best ever.
