As everyone knows the Durham Farmers Market is “the place to be” on Saturday morning.  The market’s popularity and the friendly atmosphere attracts an estimated 2,000 people each week.   With this type of draw it is easy to see why other groups would want to use it to provide information to the public about their group and the cause they are advocating for.

This year Durham Central Park has received a huge increase in requests from these groups asking to set up displays.  On some Saturdays it has been almost impossible for visitors to be able to access the grassy area we call the “Sister Cities Tree Grove”.  On more then one occasion DCP has received expressed concerns from Market visitors that they have felt coerced by one  or more of these groups.

DCP recognizes the important opportunity that the Market provides for Non-Profit groups to convey their message yet we also want to maintain the friendly open atmosphere of the market.

To this end DCP has crafted a policy to help manage Non-Profit Display tables.  The policy is shown here.  Groups who are interested in setting up a display booth are encouraged to complete an application and submit it to DCP.  DCP will schedule up to four (4) Non-Profit groups each week.

This policy will take effect August 8th.  We thank you for your cooperation.
